Top 5 – Awesome Movies Coming to Netflix in June
Alright Netflix fiends, here’s a look at the best movies you guys are getting in June. This is a fantastic list, and includes an original film I had the pleasure of already seeing. So here you go, the best movies coming to Netflix in June.
5 – SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR (Robert Rodriguez, 2014)
I absolutely loved the first Sin City (2005). The visuals and neo-noir style blew my mind. The second one, though not as big of a landmark, is still a very entertaining and fun movie. It still looks visually amazing, with the dazzling black and white and perfectly placed color pops. We also get some excellent performances in the film from Mickey Rourke, reprising his role as the violent, funny thug Marv, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the poker playing Johnny, and Eva Green as a sultry, diabolical Ava. This is a cool, fun, violent, dazzling good time.
4 – COLD IN JULY (Jim Mickle, 2014)
Cold in July stars Michael C. Hall as a protective father who kills an intruder one night and sends his life in a downward spiral after the intruder’s father/parolee (Sam Shepard) seeks revenge. Now, this sounds like a cat and mouse thriller, and it starts off that way. But about half way through, the film takes a wild turn, and takes us on a fascinating, blood soaked ride. This is a pulpy, thrilling, insane movie that would be a perfect midnight movie from the 1980’s. And, we get a scene stealing performance from the great Don Johnson. If you’re looking for a fun, late night thrill ride, give this Sundance hit a look.
3 – THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CARING (Rob Burnett, 2016)
I had the pleasure of seeing this movie at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and it is just a delight. Paul Rudd stars as a care-giver to a wise-cracking disabled teen (Craig Roberts). The two form a bond based around their own personal demons and decide to take a cross country road trip to see all of the weirdest landmarks in America. Rudd is perfect and Roberts is a scene stealer, and we get a really good performance from Selena Gomez as a hitchhiker the guys pick up on their journey. This is the perfect mix of hilarious comedy, tender buddy film, and drama. I fell in love with this movie at Sundance and you will too. Check out my full review of the film right here.
2 – SPOTLIGHT (Tom McCarthy, 2015)
Last year’s Best Picture Oscar winner is one of the best movies of the decade. Telling the story of the Boston Globes’ investigation of priest molestation in Boston is as good as movies got in 2015. This is a tense, fascinating, gripping film that grabs you by the throat and never lets go. Featuring a brilliant cast of Oscar nominees Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, and Stanley Tucci, every actor is at the height of their powers. This is an important and masterful film and this centuries All the President’s Men (1976)
1 – JURASSIC PARK (Steven Spielberg, 1993)
I mean, this is the obvious choice. Jurassic Park is my personal favorite Steven Spielberg movie. It’s the perfect combination of thrills and humor, with a great story and landmark effects. John Williams’ score is legendary and the movie is as quotable as any. This is truly a masterpiece of cinema and a movie you can watch over and over again that never gets old. If you haven’t seen this movie, you’re the worst kind of human and need to watch it NOW!
